Hungary is a slowly emerging economy in today’s world. It has seen a lot of turbulence in its economy especially because there the government there was a communist rule in the country right down to the year 1990. In that year the government changed for good and the Hungarian economy was turned from a closed market model to an open market model. This means that the large amount of centralization that was the bane of the Hungarian economy started to be reduced systematically. There has been a lot of progress since that time and the market-based economy in Hungary has been successful so far.

However, the high amount of government spending and the inconsistent business licensing and registration has led to a great crisis in recent year. This has also happened because not all government enterprises have been converted to private ownership and their performance has not been very good lately. Hungary being a member of the EU, has had to take seek out a help package from the EU and the IMF to the tune of $20 billion. This has greatly helped the economy to stabilize in recent times and it helps the country to make room for development.

For importers, the country offers a lot of opportunities. There are several key industries within the country that require imported items to run smoothly. Hungary is a technically advanced country and one where a lot of high-tech equipment is manufactured. For this industry, you can import the high quality raw materials that are often required. This sector also creates a demographic that is not quite rich but has moderate spending power. Your import can also serve their needs by giving them items that they want at a lower price or better quality or both if possible.

Exporting in Hungary is going to be one of the most lucrative opportunities that you have ever come across. The country has recently made a shift from the lower value food and textiles industry to the higher end of manufacturing luxury automobiles, high-end tourism, information technology etc. It is one of the most important aspects of the country because this defines the items that the country has available for export. The country has been exporting these high-end items since their manufacturing was started and exporters will benefit greatly from these.

Visitors take Hungary flights not only for spending their vacations but also for business purpose as it is a rich in natural resources like bauxite, coal, natural gas, and fertile soils, and is a big exporter of electric and electronic equipment, machinery, foodstuffs and chemicals. Quality wines, rejuvenating thermal springs, and a thriving arts and music scene are just hint of tourism in the country.

Royal Palace: Also known as Buda Castle, Royal Palace is dominating the city skyline from its vantage point on top of Buda Hill. Architecturally the Palace is a hodge-podge of styles. If you take flights to Hungary go to visit this palace in night as it’s the best time to take a magnificent view of the site. It is a complex that houses National Library, the National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum. This complex of the Hungarian kings is built on the southern tip of Castle Hill. This site was declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, and has now become one of the most visited Hungary sites by both locals and cheap Hungary flights takers.

Gellert Hills: Getting to Gellert Hills is an adventure in itself. This hill is home to several historic spas, valued for their medicinal qualities since the Turkish occupation. One may see a stunning view of the city from a lookout tower. This medieval area with its winding streets is a wonderful place to start exploring Budapest on foot. Here one can relax in the thermal waters of the Roman-styled pool with its lion-headed spouts. The Gallert Hills cave is located within these hills and is visited by tourists taking cheap flights to Hungary.

Chain Bridge: It is one of the famous landmarks in Budapest as well as in Hungary. It was the first connection between pest and Buda made in 1836.

Frequent rain falls and snowy winters are why Hungary is becoming more popular for winter sports such as skiing. Ski chalets are available to rent along with self catering apartments. Tourists who enjoy the outdoor lifestyle can rent a holiday cottage in the mountains, hiking, climbing, horse riding, fishing and swimming are just a few of the activities that can be enjoyed.

Many tourists rent a holiday villa or self catering villa and visit the world heritage sites of Hungary. Budapest is the most famous heritage site. It is the capital city of Hungary and famous for three sites, Buda, Pest and Castle Hill. You will find the marvellous Royal Palace situated here. It is built in Gothic style. It has been built and modified for more than 300 years. In 1968, the castle was destroyed by the Christian army. In 1715, the castle was rebuilt once again. Buda Castle Labyrinth is another famous tourist attraction. It is the underground maze which stretches all the way to Castle Hill.

Most tourists rent a holiday apartment or cottage and use this as a base to explore the local tourist attractions. One that is not to be missed is The Great Synagogue in Budapest. This is the largest synagogue is Europe. It is stunning monument. The Szoborpark statue park is another favourite for tourists and is well worth visiting.

Most of the statues are of communists from the history of Hungary. As you walk around, imagine driving to your job every day and driving past these monumental statues on your way to remind you of the leader that you must honour and accept, no matter how much terror he brings to your country. The museum is an introduction to the spirit behind the Iron Curtain.

For lovers of shopping there is The Central Market Mall. This is situated in Budapest. The 19th century market is the largest in the city. This was built in the 1890s and was re-established in 1994. Budapest offers rented accommodation such as self catering apartments and holiday villas; you can arrange this through the home owner.

Another great attraction are The Great Plains as they can be used for horse riding at the weekends. These plains are also the home to various popular stud farms that are used for regular horse shows and exhibitions. You can book for horse riding lessons or go on excursions with various horse riding schools.

Hungary is a great place for both summer and winter holidays, whether you’re looking to rent a luxury villa with a swimming pool in the sun, or a ski chalet in the snow, Hungary is the perfect location.

Hungary has at least twenty distinct wine regions available for growing grapes. Vineyards have been operating since the Great Roman times with many variations of grapes. With its seasonal extremes of cold winters and hot summers, the weather in the country is a large factor. This weather creates a diversity of soil conditions that allow wine makers to produce quite a variety of wines. Many people are unaware of the fact that it is the diversity of climate that accounts for the flavor of many of the fine wines in the world today.

The locally favored wine is called Tokay Aszu and has been consumed by the populace for hundreds of years. Today Tokay Aszu is one of the most popular dessert wines in the world and remains popular in Hungary with meals or desserts. Discovered in the middle of the 17th century by the aristocracy of Europe, Tokay Aszu was thought to have mystical healing power. This rumor helped spread the popularity of this sweet wine.

Another common food wine found in Hungary is known as Bull,s Blood. Also called Egri Bikaver, this wine takes its colloquial name from the rich dark red coloring. This sweet wine can go well with desserts but is also used with regular meals. First created in the 16th century, Bulls Blood remains popular to the present and is commonly found all over Hungary and other areas nearby.

If you ever visit Hungary, you should make a point to spend some time in Tokay which is in northeast Hungary. Just a few hours by train from Budapest, this region is a wine lover’s dream come true. The many wineries found in this area offer tours and tastings throughout their season from May through October. You will be able to see the ancient underground wine cellars and sample some fantastic Hungarian wines.

If you enjoy wine, you can’t go wrong with adding some Hungarian wines to your repertoire. With the ancient traditions that come close to rivaling that of France, Hungary continues to produce superior wines for every occasion. Whether it’s a bottle of Tokay Aszu to serve with your dessert menu or the rich Bulls Blood with a filet mignon, wines produced in Hungary will prove to be of high quality. As the world discovers Hungarian wine, you will be able to find more types in your local shops.

Hungary has a long tradition of wine making that goes back to the Romans and possibly earlier. The climate and soil is ideal for wine growing.

Communist rule did no harm to the traditional techniques of wine making in Hungary. It could even be argued that Communism preserved the old

ways better than in the West.

In France, and to some extent in Italy and Spain, the big labels dominate the market. But in Hungary there are many small producers. The market

is more like it was in France in the 1950s. It makes it more difficult to read but it means that there are always some serendipitous discoveries to

be made in Hungary.

There is a tremendous uniformity about New World wine and increasingly so from French wine. This is great for the supermarkets who want to

stock their shelves with a product that remains the same year in year out but it is very dull for the wine lover who wants to be adventurous.

Choosing Hungarian wines demands that you know something about the different regions and the types of wine they produce. There are at least

20 different regions in Hungary and many different varieties of grapes. This tends to produce a great range of wines that reflect the soil conditions

and climatic variations of the country.

Tokay Aszu has always been one of the most famous of Hungary’s wines. It became popular among European aristocrats in the seventeenth

century. Louis XIV called it the king of wines and Voltaire wrote a poem about it.

It was thought to have healing powers. Who knows whether that is true? The wonders of red wine are only just beginning to be investigated by

scientists. Whether it cures all ills or not this is one of the best Hungarian wines to try.

The long warm moist autumn in this region allows the grapes to ferment on the vine. This is known as the noble rot. It produces a characteristic

wine that is allowed to age in small casks in tunnels cut into the volcanic rock of the region.

Tokay wine has been called the ultimate desert wine. But it can also be drunk as an aperitif like sherry.

In many ways, the people causing trouble on the streets and the politicians bickering in parliament are both still struggling to come to terms with 50 years of communist rule. What people seem to forget is just how much has changed in the last 15 years since the Hungarian economy was opened up to competition, most of it for the good. The events of the last month or so have reminded us all how far Hungary has come, and how far it still has to go. Nothing is constant in Budapest, and that’s why we recommend it to all our clients – it’s always so full of surprises. Granted, those watching the TV news will have got a very different picture. Many of the major hotels experienced mass cancellations following the ransacking of the TV building on September 18 and the violence that marred the October 23 commemoration of the 1956 uprising. Living in Budapest, it was all a little ridiculous. Only people living in the town centre got the slightest whiff of teargas – it was obvious where the flashpoints were and which places to avoid.

Since the protests died down – and they now seem like a distant memory – discussion has turned to the wider political picture and how the country can claw itself out of its current political and economic crisis. In simple terms, the government has spent way beyond its means and its payback time. Rebuilding a country is a tough job, and the guys at the top still have a lot to learn. Many of the things we take for granted in the United Kingdom or the States are still filtering through society, and that includes the business, political and social environment. But it’s business as usual in the city’s great pubs, clubs, restaurants and spas.
